Golden Eagle by Chad & Noelle

While on a recent trip to Wyoming we were lucky enough to spot our first golden eagle in the wild. We were driving along a dirt road where the landscape was painted with beautiful fall colors and miles of horse farms as far as the eye could see. The road was nestled between mountains and large hills; it was breathtaking to say the least!

We spotted the golden on a cliff of rocks along a hill. He was sitting there so proud as we approached him. We quickly took out our gear and hopped in the back of the pickup truck to get a closer look. He allowed us a few shots before flying away and then shortly returned for us to get another look. We never did see him after this and unfortunately we had to go home the next day. I think Chad would have slept on the mountainside waiting for him if he could have...

The golden is really a beautiful bird. It is hard to imagine how large they are until you see it in person. We have heard the golden is a rare bird to see so we feel very fortunate to have come into contact with such a magnificent creature. Just seeing the pride on Chad's face was priceless!

Images were shot using manual exposure on the camera with a 500mm Lens and the 1.4x teleconverter. All images were hand held from the back of a pickup truck. My settings were f7.1, 1/1250, ISO800 I prefer to shoot my 500mm at f7.1 with the teleconverter, after many images and close observation I notice that the lens is much sharper at f7.1.
